Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center
The Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center offers multidisciplinary teams to provide lifetime care and coordination of medical and equipment needs for veterans with spinal cord injuries. This center offers primary and acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, SCI annual evaluations, homecare, patient education classes, support groups for patients and their families, driver education, peer counseling, wound care management, respite care, caregiver training, recreation and sports programs, vocational counseling, and spinal cord injury research. MedStar National Rehabilitation Network has a nationally accredited Spinal Cord Program that offers comprehensive care and a team of experts who work together to help patients reach the highest level of health and independence. SCI specialists work to treat the physical, cognitive and behavioral effects of injury and illness. Craig Hospital Nurse Advice Line
Craig Hospital launched the Craig Hospital Nursing Advice Line in order to address the many health-related calls regarding spinal cord injury they were receiving from individuals with a spinal cord injury and their families. A person might call when:
- A non-emergency medical question arises
- An individual experiences a change which they question is "normal"
- A new caregiver or health care provider needs educational materials to help understand the injury
